Doom:VS – “Earthless”. Remember how good Eye of Solitude was last year? Remember how amazing Colosseum was too?
Doom:VS is that damn good. Pure dreadful amazement within the doom genre with death metal growling and melancholic riffing that suck me in and put me in awe each and every time I listen to this album. Earthless is the soundtrack to the earth ending….this is death. 4.25 out of 5

Eternal Valley – “Screams of Eternal Emptiness”. Atmospheric/ambient depressive black metal with some raunchy funeral doom moments as well. This is the deepest, saddest, most soul squeezing, emotional and massively metal release I’ve heard this year. One of my favorites and you can find it here for free. This is an amazing musical journey as the synth guides you through the dreadful noise with a false sense of security into the bleak forest of oblivion and loss. Vocals are SDBM and done with a masterful tongue. A brilliant find, a wonderful release. 5 out of 5

Deafest – “Alpine Expanse”. Want some tasty black metal? Deafest coughs up this quality 3 song EP that feels similar to Saor in many ways (minus the Celtic part) and also feels like it could be the soundtrack to a great exploration. The expansive writing and build up on these two songs are great. The drums are programmed but they sound really good. The final song is a slow and steady outro that mainly just calms you down and guides your finger to the “Play” button again. 4.25 out of 5

Musk Ox – “Woodfall”. Enter a classical guitar, a cello and violin and what do you have? One of the most absolutely breathtaking releases I’ve ever heard. I work at a luxury retirement home and played this on my phone while I worked and got praised for the classical sounds coming from my pant pocket. This is not only safe for work, but I can play this for my little girl and she loves it. So not only will your job, kids and mother think you’re an amazing person with incredible taste in music but metalheads who also enjoy folk and atmospheric black metal can easily associate, understand and respect the music that Musk Ox create. It’s hard to critique something that is so widely enjoyed as I find no faults and I’m always in the mood for it. Enjoy this with everyone. A subtle and beautiful release. 5 out of 5
